Warangal girl set on fire dies

She suffered third degree burns on more than 70 per cent of her body, and her airways were affected after inhaling the hot air.

Hyderabad: The 20-year-old girl who was set ablaze by a former friend on February 27 in Warangal, died on Monday while undergoing treatment.

T. Ravali, from Ramachandrapuram in Sangem mandal of Warangal Rural district, had suffered third degree burns on more than 70 per cent of her body, and her airways were affected after inhaling the hot air.

Her assailant, P. Sai Anvesh, from Chennaram in Wardhannpet mandal, had doused her with petrol and set her alight after they argued about their relationship. He fled the spot but was later taken into custody. Police will look into changing the case against him from attempted murder after receiving the post-mortem report. “Despite of our best efforts, she expired at about 6 pm,” a hospital statement said.
