Hyderabad: One more cheating case against Vasavi Junior College
Hyderabad: On Friday, another cheating case was registered against Vasavi Junior College at the Vanasthalipuram police station on a complaint by the Board of Intermediate Education.
Police are still looking for the third accused in the case, Kapil Goud. Two persons — the principal Seenaiah and managing partner B Shyamsunder Reddy were arrested on Friday.
District Intermediate Education Officer (DIEO), Rangareddy district, Mahmood Ali, lodged a complaint on Friday on behalf of the board, stating that the college management shifted the students from Suryapet in an unauthorised manner and without following proper guidelines.
A case of cheating (420) and criminal breach of trust (406) of the Indian Penal Code was registered. Police is also probing how the management handed over Intermediate second year students to the new management and what procedures were followed in the transfer process. Police have meanwhile filed a petition seeking custody of the two arrested persons.
The court granted three-day police custody from Monday to Wednesday. “We can know more details of the scam after we question them in custody,” said an investigating official.
As many as 250 Intermediate students of Vasavi Junior College in Vanasthalipuram were denied hall tickets for the final examination because the college management did not fulfil the required formalities for getting affiliation.
The management had already collected admission fees and examination fees from the students, but did not remit these to the Board and so students could not sit for the examination.
However, the Intermediate Board has said that the students will be allowed to write the examination during supplementary exams and that they will be considered as regular candidates.
Intermediate Board to display names of all affiliated colleges
After the Sri Vasavi College, Vanasthalipuram fiasco, the Telangana Intermediate Board has decided to make it clear which colleges have affiliation so that students are not fooled by the false claims made by college managements.
The Board will be prominently displaying names of Junior Colleges that are affiliated to the Board. This will enable students and parents to cross-check the government data before enrolling in a particular college.
In the case of Sri Vasavi College, the principal-cum-owner V Srinivas is alleged to have deceived students by claiming affiliation. Students believed him when he said that he was in the process of completing the formalities to get affiliation.
Intermediate Secretary Dr A. Ashok appealed to students to do a background check of the college they are enrolling in, particularly if it is a new college.
“The Board has been uploading affiliated colleges data on Board website every year. But this time we decided to highlight it more for the convenience of students. The affiliated colleges list for this coming academic year will be displayed prominently on the website. Also, lists of affiliated colleges in each district will be put up in the Intermediate Education Offices of that district,” he said. According to the Board's records there are 3047 Junior Colleges in 31 districts including 402 Government Junior Colleges in Telangana.
