Tirupati: Three-year rigorous imprisonment to city planner in DA case
Tirupati: The ACB court, in Nellore on Monday, pronounced judgment in a disproportionate asset case of ACB of Tirupati (Crime No. 17/RCA-TCT/2009 and CC No. 40/2015), wherein the accused officer Thokala Shanmuka Reddy, 59, the in-charge assistant city planner of GVMC of Visakhapatnam was convicted with three-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 3 lakh. In case the fine could not be paid, the accused will have to serve one more year in RI.
According to ACB officials, Shanmuka Reddy was appointed as TPBO on June 15, 1987 and worked at Srikalahasti and Nellore. Later, he was promoted as town planning supervisor and worked at Tirupati, Guntur, Anantapur and Visakhapatnam municipal corporations.
A disproportionate asset case was booked against him on December 25, 2009 by the ACB of Tirupati and searches were conducted in his house at Visakhapatnam and that of his relatives and friends on December 26, 2009. He was arrested on the same day and released on bail on December 31, 2009.
A native of Mittapalem village in Chandragiri mandal in Chittoor district, he worked as a town planning supervisor in Tirupati municipality from April 2, 1995 to December 25, 2009.
A chargesheet was filed against him for possession of disproportionate assets amounting to Rs 42,71,936, where as the ACB Court, Nellore, held that he possessed disproportionate assets worth Rs 12,46,000.
