Nellore: Port Public Relations Officer hurt in attack by fisherman

However, Mr Venugopal said they paid compensation to all the eligible and there is no basis for his allegation.

Nellore: Public Relations Officer of Krishnapatnam Port Company Ltd, Ganta Venugopal has narrowly escaped an attack on his life by a fisherman when he was in his chambers at the Port Administrative Building late on Monday evening.

According to Mr Venugopal, the accused, identified as Vavilla Venkateswarlu, managed to gain entry into the administrative building by wearing a jacket similar to that of the port staff. Armed with a knife, he attacked Mr Venugopal, who was sitting in his seat, before he realised what was happening. Though he ducked to keep himself away from the knife after pushing the offender, he sustained bleeding injury above the hip in the assault. Meanwhile, port security staff overpowered Venkateswarlu and handed him over to the police. Mr Venugopal has been shifted to KIMS in Nellore for treatment.

Sources in the port said that Venkateswarlu has been demanding money from the port under the plea that he lost everything because of the port. However, Mr Venugopal said they paid compensation to all the eligible and there is no basis for his allegation.

Prior to the attack on the PRO, Mr Venugopal, the accused, Venkates-warlu, set fire to the PRO’s car by pouring petrol to divert the attention of security persons.
