Hyderabad: Woman Home Guard mowed down

Hyderabad: A 45-year-old woman Home Guard working at Charminar police station was mowed down by a speeding van when she was crossing the road in Mailardevpally on Monday morning.

At around 6.30 am on Monday, K. Sujatha, 45, a resident of Wambe Colony in Mailardevpally was returning from a visit to her daughter’s house.

As she crossed the road at Laxmiguda crossroads, a speeding DCM van, which was entering the main road from a lane, hit Sujatha from the rear.

The van driver did not stop and sped away. Sujatha suffered bleeding injuries to her head and died on the spot.

Mailardevpally inspector K. Sathaiah Goud said the culprit and the vehicle have been traced and a case of causing death due to negligence has been booked and the accused has been apprehended.

In another incident at Medipally, 29-year-old D. Ravi Kumar from Nandikotkur in Kurnool district succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Government General Hospital in Kurnool on Monday.

He lost control over his bike and rammed it into a road median. The incident took place on January 9 at Boduppal bus depot and Ravi Kumar died on Monday, said Medipally inspector B. Anji Reddy.
