Telangana: Techie held for bigamy and dowry harassment

Hyderabad: A 36-year-old Indian origin techie who was working in the US allegedly dumped his first wife, came back to India and contracted a second marriage. His first wife Swapna Reddy, who is a techie in the US, lodged a complaint in the US against Lingareddy stating that he had harassed her for dowry, and a US warrant is pending against him. He was arrested and remanded.

Police said that Anuga Lingareddy alias Lingaiah 36, hailing from Suryapet district, married Swapna in 2003 and they went to the US. Swapna gave birth to a girl in 2005, and after that Lingareddy started harassing her. He asked her to get more dowry from her parents and attacked her. She filed a complaint with the US police. He was arrested and his passport seized. After his father’s death in 2012, he filed an appeal in the US court, got back his passport and came to India to attend his father’s funeral. He did not go back to the US.

In 2013, he started a relationship with one Divya Reddy, of Mahbubnagar. Divya gave birth to two kids. Meanwhile, Swapna who is in the US with her daughter came to know of Lingareddy’s relationship and informed her mother Ananta Rameshwari Devi. Based on her complaint on December 19, police registered a case under Sections 498-A, 494, 420 and 506.

Police said the case was delayed as evidence was not available. “We found that he had two kids from his second partner and the elder son’s birth certificate had Lingareddy’s name. So we arrested him,” SI B. Raju said. Lingareddy, who is working for a software firm in Madhapur said that he had not married Divya and they were having only a live-in relationship.
