Telangana: Man prints fake notes with television cues
Hyderabad: Taking the cue from videos aired on a regional news TV channel on making fake Rs 2,000 notes, a 26-year-old man made fake currency notes of Rs 2,000 using a photocopier and circulated 30 notes. The issue came out when his friend stole the money thinking that it was genuine and went to deposit it in bank. The bank alerted the police. Police arrested U. Raju Prasad and seized fake currency from him.
Police said Raju Prasad, hailing from Medak district, was a college dropout and was a helper at a factory in Patancheru. He left the job and started selling anti-radiation chips used in mobile phones at a rented shop. He was into online trading also. Police said that Raju saw a programme on a regional TV channel which showed how fake currency was made by photocopying original notes. After that he decided to do that. He used his printer and made fake notes at night and managed to exchange around 30 fake notes. A few days ago, one of his friends Yadaiah, to whom Raju owned money, stole a bundle which Raju had kept on his bike. “Not knowing they were fake Yadaiah went to deposit it at Axis Bank,” inspector B. Prabhakar said.
Based on a complaint by the bank manager, a case was registered and Yadaiah was detained. Raju said he used to photocopy original currency on a white paper and cut it. Police seized Rs 7.76 lakh fake currency and Rs 26,000 which he had acquired by exchanging fake currency and arrested him. He was remanded.
