A maxi cab driven by a drunk driver went out of control killing a woman and injuring two others.

Hyderabad: A maxi cab driven by a drunk driver went out of control killing a woman and injuring two others near IIIT junction in Gachibowli on Saturday. Police said Ramavath Shanta, 35, a resident of Chandanagar, Swaroopa, 30, and Nagarani, 19, were housekeeping staffers at TCS Synergy Park in Gachibowli. After completing duty on Saturday evening, they crossed the road and were waiting for transport.

Meanwhile, the driver of a maxi cab who was going to Lingampalli lost control and rammed the vehicle into the victims standing by the roadside. Shanta who came under the vehicle was dragged for 50 meters. She suffered a severe head injury. Meanwhile, Swaroopa and Nagarani were thrown in the air and fell some distance away. Swaroopa broke her teeth and Nagarani suffered bruises on both hands. They were admitted to a nearby hospital and their condition is out of danger.

Police said they tested the driver with a breath analyzer for alcohol levels, but the reading was not clear. “We suspect that he was drunk when the accident happened. We have sent him for medical examination,” Gachibowli inspector J. Ramesh Kumar said. The driver K. Balraj was detained. There were two passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Balraj and the two passengers escaped without injuries. A case under Section 304-A (accidental death) and 337 (inflicting injuries) was registered.
