Hyderabad: A US-based woman techie who came to Hyderabad on vacation, an advocate from Andhra Pradesh, four realtors and a woman organiser and another person were caught red-handed by Cyberabad SOT while they were playing cards in a villa in Narsingi on Saturday. The accused are Venuri Vijayalaxmi, 50, a housewife-cum-organiser of the game, N. Madhavi, 35, a software professional in the US, S. Sobhamechalam, 50, an advocate from West Godavari district, Ch Venkateshwarlu, 50, G. Krupakar 43, T. Rajashekar, 46, all businessman and P. Narender Goud, 42, who owns a toddy shop in Khajaguda and K. Ramesh, 35, who works in the same villa.
Police said that after Vijayalaxmi’s husband Malleshwar Reddy died of a heart attack, she started organising the ‘Teen Patti’ game in their villa. She was into this business since six months and used to conduct the game with family friends and her husband’s business partners. Rajashekar was her distant relative, while Madhavi was their family friend.
The other accused were her husband’s business partners. “Based on a tip-off, we conducted raids on Aditya Fort View Villa and caught them playing cards. We also seized Rs 77,090, eight mobiles and other material from them,” Madhapur SOT inspector M. Gangadhar said, adding that Narender Goud has a history sheet against him in Cyberabad Commissionerate limits. The arrested persons and the seized material were handed over to Narsingi police station. A case was registered under the AP Gaming Act.
