Burglary, jail and more burglaries

Man involved in 260 house burglaries arrested again

Hyderabad: A habitual property offender involved in more than 260 house burglaries and thefts in the three commissionerates since 1979, along with his three associates, were arrested by a joint team of the South Zone Task Force and the Saidabad Police.

Prime accused Manthri Shankar alias Shivanna, 60, a resident of Chilkalguda, along with his aides, Syed Asad, 39, Syed Mehraj, 32, and Mohd Moiz Khan, 26, was involved in six house burglaries in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachkonda areas in less than a month, after he ended his last jail term, officials said.

“Mantri Shankar had started committing offences since 1979. He was involved in more than 260 house burglaries and thefts here and convicted in 209 cases after arrests 22 times. Post his last release from jail on December 14, 2021, he formed a gang with his three associates and resumed house burglaries,” stated Chakravarthy Gummi, the DCP of Commissioner’s Task Force.

A known face among police personnel and other criminals, the offender frequently shifts his place of stay and uses an iron rod and screwdriver to break open door locks. “Generally, he operates between 1am and 4am. Once he enters a locality, he moves from one house to another by crossing over the compound walls to avoid being noticed by police patrol vans and the locality people,” stated the official.

The arrested men, along with recovered property, were put under the custody of the Saidabad Police for further action.
