Chennai: Boy's abductor held with help of CCTV footage

A special team was formed under the Kancheepuram superintendent of police to find Kumaraguru.

Chennai: A day after a five-year-old abducted boy was rescued, City police on Friday arrested a 45-year-old man who had allegedly kidnapped him from outside a Tasmac shop in Oragadam as his father was lying drunk on Wednesday.

The arrested man, Marimuthu, 45, of Thiruvannamalai, worked as a construction worker in Oragadam.

According to the police, around noon on Wednesday, Gurupurushothaman, 36, took his five-year-old son Kumaraguru to a nearby Tasmac shop in Oragadam and left the boy at the entrance. A few minutes later, Gurupurushotham emerged from the shop in an inebriated condition and fell to the road.

Guruprasad's wife came looking for the two, as they had not returned even after over three hours, but on not finding them, she alerted Oragadam police.

A special team was formed under the Kancheepuram superintendent of police to find Kumaraguru. The boy was rescued from Saraswathi Nagar in Thurmullaivoyal on Thursday night and handed over to his parents.

On Friday, the special team conducted an inquiry at the Tasmac shop and took help of closed-circuit television camera footage to trace Marimuthu.

He was arrested on Friday morning. On interrogation, he confessed to having kidnapped the boy and was remanded in judicial custody.
