Chennai: Paramour, woman held for murdering husband
Chennai: City Police claimed to have solved the murder of a 34-year-old electrical engineer with the arrest of his wife and her paramour in Medavakkam, on Wednesday. The arrested were identified as Surekha, (24) and her neighbour and paramour Ganapathy (24), of Gandhi Nagar, Medavakkam. Her 4-year-old-daughter’s confession punched holes in the random murder theory of the mother who maintained that a masked trio assaulted her husband Arivalagan, (24) besides injuring her. The girl told the cops that she woke up in the middle of the night to find her father struggling for his life with her mother illuminating him with her mobile phone torch and an ‘uncle’ strangling daddy.
The other male involved was later identified. Surekha who was pretending to have been under severe trauma was taken into custody. She also confessed to have committed the crime and based on her confession Ganapthy was also taken in. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Surekha had grown passionate towards her neighbour since last March. She, along with Ganapathy, hatched a plot to eliminate Arivalagam whom they perceived as a hindrance to their relationship.
She had let Ganapthy in when her husband was fast asleep. After committing the offence, she asked Ganapathy to give her mild injuries so as to make it appear as if the murder was done by burglars. She later called up her mother Sampoornam who lives in the next street and narrated her concocted version. Sampoornnam rushed to Surekha’s place with her relatives and neighbours and sent a search party which located Arivalagan lying dead in a lane near Eirkarai.
The family also rushed the injured woman to Chromepet GH from where she was taken into custody. On information, cops moved the body of the deceased to Chromepet GH where an autopsy was performed and the body was handed over to kin. The deceased is a native of Ariyalur district and was married to Surekha for six years. Both were related and the wedding took place after they fell in love, with the consent of both the families.
