Alappuzha: Special squad to probe gold theft
Alappuzha: The police have formed a special squad to probe the robbery in a house at Pullikanakku near Kayamkulam from where 75 sovereigns of gold and diamonds were stolen on Monday.
House owner K. Surendran, a retired Reserve Bank of India employee, and his family had gone to Thiruvananthapuram on December 31. They noticed the burglary when they returned to their house ‘Tejas’ on Monday.
The police team led by Kayamkulam CI K. Sadan has extended the investigation to the other states as well on the basis of mobile phone towers. Finger prints were sent for forensic the examination. Several thefts had taken place in nearby places also recently. Though the thieves had entered the house by breaking open the front door, the lock was not damaged. The police also examined the CCTV footage from the nearby bank.
