Nagole robbery was pre-planned: Cops

The gang chose 8.30 pm to strke as crowds increase due to the presence of eateries operating in the vicinity

Hyderabad: The police said that the armed robbery at Mahadev Jewellers at Nagole on December 1 was pre-planned, ruling out the possibility of it being an inside job. They said that the accused were concerned about making a clean getaway from the spot, and chose to strike at the jewellery store.

On December 1, two unidentified armed men opened fire at shop owner Kalyan Ban Choudhary and jewellery supplier Rajkumar Surana Sukhdev at the shop in Snehapuri Colony of Nagole, and made away with Rs 1.7 lakh cash and two kilograms of gold. The police later found that two of their aides were waiting on motorbikes, on which they escaped.

Wallab Tiwari, a reformed convict from Bihar, said that the recovery of three empty 7.62 calibre cartridges indicated the use of country-made weapons procured from northern states. Also, the accused covered their faces with the ‘gamcha’.

The investigators said that the accused were trailing Rajkumar, who was ferrying cash and gold, from Secunderabad and ambushed him in Nagole to make an easy escape. Rajkumar was making a delivery of Rs 5 lakh and three kilograms of gold from Ganapathi Jewellers in Secunderabad.

There are four jewellery shops within 1.3 kilometres on the stretch from Road No. 1 to Road No. 15 of Snehapuri Colony. The gang chose 8.30 pm to strike as crowds increase due to the presence of eateries operating in the vicinity.

The police said that the accused entered through the Uppal-LB Nagar Road towards Ghatkesar or a lane beside Supraja Hospital, traversing 14 kilometres, through Old Nagole Bandlaguda, Anandnagar, Tukkuguda Kuntloor connecting Hayathnagar Outer Ring Road.

The police said that they have found leads about the main accused and that they are likely to be traced in two days.
