Chennai: Woman SI run over by truck

A case has been registered and investigations are progressing.

Chennai: A woman sub-inspector of police, Mankuil (32), was killed in a road accident near Manimangalam on Monday, when she was riding on the Chennai-Tiruchy highway.

Police said K. Mankuil, native of Ariyalur was a 2011 batch Sub-Inspector of police, residing at Kannadapalayam near Tambaram.

"She was recently posted in the Economic Offences Wing in Guindy. On Monday morning, she had attended a court session in Poonamallee. Later, she had gone towards Kancheepuram on her two-wheeler.

When she was at Serapanancheri bus stand near Manimangalam on the Vandaloor - Walajabad high road, a speeding truck carrying timber to the Guindy forest office, ran over her.

Sources said the truck dragged her to about 500 meters, and she died on the spot.

Truck driver P. Srinivasan (23) of Padappai, Tamabaram, also sustained injuries in the accident.

Manimangalam police rushed to the spot and sent the body to the Chromepet government hospital for post-mortem. Police arrested the truck driver, Srinivasan, and remanded him in judicial custody.

It is said that the truck driver was drunk. A case has been registered and investigations are progressing.

Mankuil is survived by husband S. Vijayakumar (33), and a son.
