Rowdy attacks cop during arrest, gets shot in the leg

BENGALURU: A notorious rowdy-sheeter was shot at on his leg and arrested by the Konanakunte police, after he allegedly attacked a police constable with a machete, when they went to arrest him on Saturday night.
The incident took place at Jambu Savari Dinne in Konanakunte police station limits at around 11.30 pm.
The police had gone to arrest the rowdy, Santosh alias Palani (33), in connection with an assault case. The injured police constable has been identified as Kiran Kumar.
According to police, on Saturday evening Palani and three of his gang members were drinking alcohol and creating a ruckus at an under construction building at Kothanur Dinne. They also assaulted some passersby.
When the building owner, Venkatesh Prasad, was informed about the incident, he told them to leave. Palani then assaulted both Venkatesh and his physically-challenged father, after barging into his house, located adjacent to the construction site.
The gang also allegedly snatched Venkatesh's gold chain, which he was wearing, and fled.
Following the incident, Venkatesh lodged a complaint with Konanakunte police on the same night and named Palani as the accused.
The police who got to know that Palani was hiding at a government school at Jambu Savari Dinne.
When the police went to arrest him, Palani allegedly launched an attack on the police team with his machete and injured Kiran. Inspector Dharmendra shot him on his leg to bring the situation under control, the police said.
According to police, Palani was earlier involved in a murder in Koramangala police station limits, kidnapping a student at Bannerghatta, attempt to murders at Hulimavu and Tilak Nagar and robbery at J.P. Nagar.
