Chennai: Another home-alone woman killed

The week's murder tally goes to eight.

Chennai: With the report of yet another murder of a home-alone woman in Thousand Lights on Thursday coming in, the week’s murder tally goes to eight. She is the third woman to be murdered in the last three days. The victim, Dhanalakshmi, (48), resident of Mackey’s Garden, Thousand Lights, was found dead in a hut behind her house. The hands and legs of the deceased were tied and chilli powder had been sprinkled over her. The assailants had also sprayed a strong perfume on her to mitigate the stench, which eventually brought the murder to light. Neighbours claimed that the deceased used to wear a lot of valuables, but none was present on her when the body was removed by the cops. A neighbour from the same complex as the deceased lived in was picked up on suspicion.

The city police claimed on Thursday to have cracked the murders of senior citizens Shanthi who was living on Habibullah Road and advocate Lakshmi Sudha of Muthalamman Koil Street, West Mambalam. The two were murdered on October 30 and November 1 respectively. “We have footage of a dressed up duo coming out of the house. There was another person lying in wait outside the house. Their looks suggest they are not from here and are of North East origin”, said a senior police officer. “A relative was seen leaving the house of Lakshmi Sudha on Tuesday. We have enough clues to prove that it was he who committed the murder”, the official added.
