HYDERABAD: An Uber driver, Swiggy delivery boy and a Nift student were among 93 persons nabbed by SHE Teams of Cyberabad in September for harassing women at different locations. Driver Rathod Prem was caught for harassing a woman, a techie, who took a ride on his vehicle. After the ride, he messaged her and harassed her. The victim approached SHE Teams.
When SHE Teams contacted Prem, he disconnected the call and switched off his phone. Based on technical evidence, he was nabbed. Delivery boy P. Rajesh was nabbed for harassing a woman whom he had delivered food at Madhapur. Later, he called her and not only demanded sexual favours but also offered to pay if she agreed.
Though she blocked his contact number, he called her from different numbers and harassed her. Urligadla Bhardwaja, 22, the student had stalked the victim who was heading to Durgam Cheruvu Metro Station after attending Zumba classes. He wanted to know her name and Instagram ID and when she ignored he continued troubling her. She reported to the SHE Teams Madhapur, who nabbed him immediately.
CP Cyberabad Stephen Raveendra said 11 SHE Teams are working in Cyberabad and they have received 102 complaints from women victims through different means like whatsapp, email, Hawkeye and direct walk in. Twenty-seven cases have been registered of which eight are criminal cases and 19 petty.
Decoy operations numbering 570 were conducted at bus stops, shopping malls, railway stations, tutorials, colleges, etc.. and 16 members were caught redhanded for indecent gestures at public places and three petty cases were booked while the remaining were referred for counselling.
Thirty-nine persons were caught red-handed at nighttime for indecent activities and cases were booked against them, the CP said. In addition to legal action, they were also counselled by experts, he added.
