Chaddi gang' videos create panic in Tirupati
Tirupati: Videos of a group of unidentified persons, impersonating the notorious 'Chaddi Gang', sneaking into a house late in the night had created panic among people, especially those living in the outskirts, here.
The four persons in their inner-wear are seen breaking into a private apartment at Vidyanagar colony on the outskirts on Sunday. However, no property loss was reported by the residents, but they are in fear of the dreaded gang.
Chaddi or chaddi-baniyan gang is notorious for committing robberies while moving in groups of four to 10 wearing inner-wear.
In a series of video clips that went viral on Monday, four men in their inner-wear were caught on CCTV while they were walking on the street, reportedly to raid a house. In other clips, captured by the apartment’s CCTV cameras, the gang members were seen jumping into the parking lot and then reaching a house on the first floor through the staircase.
The footage and pictures have gone viral on social media triggering panic among residents. Based on the suspicion that some of the recent robberies in the city could have been carried out by the gang, Tirupati urban police launched a manhunt to nab the gang members.
“Soon after getting information, our teams rushed to the spot, collected clues, fingerprints and launched a manhunt for the gang. On observing the footage, we are suspecting that they may belong to Chaddi gangs”, ASP D. Muniramaiah told this newspaper.
The ASP advised people to use LHMS mobile application to secure their houses while going out on vacation and suggested apartments and gated communities to engage watchmen and security guards as the gang could break into houses even when residents are present.
