Sri Lankan Tamil refugee gets 10-year jail in rape case

The prosecution said the accused Sureash kumar of the same camp abducted the girl in 2018 and raped her at Thirumayam.

PUDUKKOTTAI: The District fast track Mahila court convicted and sentenced a Sri Lankan Tamil refugee to undergo ten years imprisonment for allegedly abducting and raping a minor girl of the Sri Lankan Tamil refugee camp at Aziyanilai in Pudukkottai district.

The prosecution said the accused Sureash kumar of the same camp abducted the girl in 2018 and raped her at Thirumayam.

The All Women police station at Thirumayam arrested the accused under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and filed a case against him, before the Mahila court.

The Judge Ms. Rajalakshmi in her order convicted and sentenced the accused to undergo ten years imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs 2,000. If the accused failed to remit the fine, he should undergo three more months imprisonment, the judge added.
