Thiruvananthapuram: Youth held for molesting foreign student in capital

Thiruvananthapuram: A youth was held by the Kazhakkoottam police on charges of molesting a foreigner woman near Kariyavattom.

A woman hailing from South Africa had suffered the molestation on September 30. The accused was identified as Anu, 27, son of Anilkumar of Pangappara. He was also suspected to be involved in instances of molestation bid and eveteasing against techies near Technopark.

According to the police, the South African woman, who was studying at a leading institution near Kariyavattom, suffered the molestation while she was returning after classes by around 3 pm. on September 30.

The accused followed the woman in a motorcycle and grabbed her while she was walking along the LNCPE road at Kariyavattom.

Though he fled the scene immediately, the woman managed to note down the registration number of the vehicle. She had also lodged a petition with the Kazhakkoottam police. Subsequently the police could trace the accused and nabbed him. The woman also identified him.

According to the Kazhakkoottam police, on quizzing the accused admitted his involvement in several such molestation attempts of techies near Technopark.

A police team led by cyber city assistant commissioner of police Anil Kumar and Kazhakkoottam station house officer S Y Suresh nabbed the accused.
