Theft at city hostel, trident hotel

The hostellers had failed to latch their room from the inside, Madhapur police officials said.

Hyderabad: Unidentified persons broke into the working women’s hostel at Madhapur and made way with cash, debit and credit cards and mobile phones belonging to the inmates, most of them techies.

The hostellers had failed to latch their room from the inside, Madhapur police officials said. The filed complaints after they realised that they had been robbed.

Ms Prajalla Devi, a software engineer living in Balaji Working Hostel at Pranathi Plaza complained to the Madhapur police on Tuesday stating that on Monday night, she along with her roommates went to sleep but had forgotten to lock the room from inside.

After she woke up in the morning, her two bags, her friend’s bag containing a debit card, credit cards, about Rs 6,500 cash were missing. The suspects gained entry into another hostel where their friend’s phone was also stolen.

Based on the complaint, Madhapur sub-inspector Veeraprasad registered a case of theft for investigation and a team is verifying the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity.

In another instance, the iPad belonging to a female UK citizen was stolen from Trident Hotel. The victim, Julia Tu, 59, hailing from London came to the city and was staying at the hotel in Madhapur.

On September 30, Julia was out the entire day visiting various places and when she reached the hotel room, her iPad was missing. She lodged a complaint with the Madhapur police alleging theft. The police registered a case and are investigating.
