Chennai: Home alone businessman's wife murdered

Three weeks ago, another home alone woman, 52-year-old Kala was murdered for gain at her residence in Triplicane.

Chennai: In a suspected case of murder, a 30-year-old home alone woman was found dead in her house in Avadi on Tuesday afternoon.

Police sources said that six sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen from her. The deceased, Mohana Priya, lived with her husband Nisha Rajan, a realtor, and two children at their house in Kollumedu in Avadi.

Around 1 pm, a neighbour had come to visit the woman when she found the front door ajar. Suspicious, she ventured inside to find Mohana Priya lying dead with slit injuries on her neck.

A police team from Avadi Tank factory rushed to the scene on information and moved the body to the Government Kilpauk Medical College hospital for autopsy.

Police said that the woman’s husband was away at work, while their children were at school. Preliminary investigations suggested that a person known to the woman committed the murder. “There was no forced entry. Some jewels seem to be missing. We suspect that the perpetrator took the jewels to divert the police,” an investigating officer said.
