Karnataka: Man rapes minor girl for turning down his love; convicted

BENGALURU: A 31-year-old man, who kidnapped and raped a minor girl, has been sentenced to 10 years simple imprisonment by the 51st City Civil and Sessions Court.

The convict, Anand, was a 25-year-old vagabond when he committed the offence in Byatarayanapura police limits in December 2010.

The minor girl, who was 15 years old then, was on her way to tuitions early in the morning when Anand kidnapped her and took her to his friend’s house. There, he illegally detained her and raped her for two days. A friend, who was accompanying the girl to the tuitions, had told the survivor’s mother that the girl was kidnapped by Anand.

Based on a kidnap complaint by the mother, the Byatarayanapura police traced Anand and rescued the victim. Investigations revealed that Anand was pestering the girl to marry him, and as she had refused, he kidnapped and raped her, forcing her to marry him.

The Byatarayanapura police had investigated the case and had filed a chargesheet. Public Prosecutor M.N. Varad argued on behalf of the government. 51st City Civil and Sessions Judge B.S. Rekha found the accused guilty of the charges and sentenced him to 10 years simple imprisonment and levied a penalty of Rs 5,000 for rape, and one-year imprisonment for kidnapping.
