Hyderabad: Decomposed body of IBM staffer found in lake

Cops found an ID card in the name of Avakash Mahanta.

Hyderabad: The decomposed body of an IBM employee was found at Mullakatta lake in KPHB Colony on Tuesday.

Passersby on noticed the body of a man floating in the lake water and called the KPHB police. The police rushed there along with a dog squad and Clues team. They were accompanied by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation staff who fished out the body from the waters.

Police recovered a mobile phone and a wallet from the dead man’s trousers.

The KPHB police found an identification card in the name of Avakash Mahanta, 28, working with IBM. He was a resident of Prabhathnagar in Dilsukhnagar. The body was in a highly decomposed state and the victim is suspected to have drowned two or three days ago.

A case of suspicious death has been registered for the probe and the body was sent for the postmortem examination to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary, said the police.

KPHB sub-inspector M. Narsimulu said: “The death of Avakash appears to be a suicide. The cause of death will be found after the postmortem. He was unmarried and his family is not aware why Avakash would have taken an extreme step.”
