Chennai: 6 member gang kills history-sheeter

Chennai: A 23-year-old history-sheeter was hacked to death at Vysarpadi by a six-member gang on Monday night. The victim died in hospital in the early hours of Tuesday.

Police identified the victim as Gokulnath alias Gokulraj, an auto driver and history-sheeter, who had pending cases against him in Vysarpadi and M.K.B Nagar police stations.

Sources said he lived with wife, Meena in Kalyanapuram, in Vyasarpadi. She is said to be seven months into pregnancy.

Gokul, a member of a street gang, often got into fights with his rival Rasiah's group in the neighbourhood. On Monday evening, Gokul and his friends went to Rasiah's residence in Sundaram street in Vysarpadi, and allegedly attacked him with deadly weapons. But, Rasaiah escaped with minor injuries.

Around 10 pm on Monday, while Gokul was walking alone at Desingapuram, a six-member gang attacked him. He was chased for 500 metres on the road and hacked to death.

On an alert, Vysarpadi police reached the spot, and Gokul was rushed to hospital, but he died in the early hours of Tuesday. He had about eight stab injuries, sources said. Police registered a case and four persons were taken into custody. Investigations are on.
