Bengaluru: 29-year-old rowdy hacked to death
Bengaluru: A 29-year-old rowdy was hacked to death by a group of unidentified men at Manganahalli Cross near Ullala late on Sunday night.
The assailants, who came in an auto, brutally attacked Gurumurthy alias Murthy with lethal weapons. Local residents saw a body lying in a pool of blood on Monday morning and informed the police.
The police said that prima facie, it appeared to be a case of old rivalry. Gurumurthy, a resident of Chikkagollarahatti and a diploma course dropout, was involved in several robbery and murder cases. He was arrested by the Kamakshipalya police on charges of dacoity and was released from jail on bail just a few days ago.
The Byadarahalli police, who are investigating the murder, said that Murthy was sitting at a bus-stop and consuming alcohol when his assailants picked up a quarrel and attacked him with lethal weapons. The body was lying at the spot for more than two hours before the beat police were alerted. A police team rushed to the spot and shifted his body to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem.
A special team has been formed to investigate the case, while CCTV footage from nearby areas has been collected to identify the accused. Murthy had also been booked by Annapurneshwarinagar, Kamakshipalaya and Rajagopalanagar police stations in over 13 cases. He was recently involved in a murder case reported from Madanayakanahalli police limits. His parents had warned him to stay away from crime and the family had recently shifted to Kempegowdanagar.
