Police arrest one in Vijayawada for cheating women
VIJAYAWADA: A habitual offender cheating women and robbing them of gold ornaments has been arrested here. Police said he was doing this for the past 12 years and had been arrested and jailed repeatedly.
The Krishnalanka police received a complaint from a woman from Chittoor district that her gold ornaments were stolen by a man who identified himself as Vamsi Krishna Reddy. The police found the culprit was Chevuri Ravindra alias Vendeti Chandra. He was arrested from Pandit Nehru Bus Station on Thursday when he was trying to cheat another woman, police said.
Police seized 97.5 gram gold ornaments worth 5 lakh from his possession. City Police Commissioner KR Tata and DCP Vishal Gunni told the media that the accused had left his parents at a young age and lived in the street. He would introduce himself to single women around the bus stand as one trading in gold. He would take them to a hotel or lodge near the bus stand, where he would give them sleeping pills and take away their gold ornaments and cash.
The police said the accused has been cheating women since 2010, and he had been arrested and jailed several times by the police in Tirupati, Nellore, Guntur, Vijayawada and Eluru in around 20 cases. He was last released from jail in January this year.
