Telangana: Chain-snatcher held; gold, bikes seized

Based on a complaint from G. Srihari Babu of Vaddera Basthi, police registered a case on April 15.

Hyderabad: The Tukaramgate police arrested a 43-year-old chain snatcher who was involved in 18 snatching cases in Warangal and Karimnagar and vehicle thefts in Hyderabad. Police recovered 100 gm of gold and eight bikes from him. The arrested man, Devaka Maruthi Prashanth Goud alias Dunna Prashanth Goud alias Maruthi alias Prashanth Rao, is a resident of Lingapur and belongs to Narayankhed.

“In 1993 Maruthi was sent to Juvenile home for thefts and got introduced to one Byri Srihari of Siddipet. Both were involved in about 84 cases of theft and chain-snatching between 1994 and 2011 in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Nalgonda, Nizamabad and Warangal,” said North Zone DCP B. Sumathi.

Based on a complaint from G. Srihari Babu of Vaddera Basthi, police registered a case on April 15. On Wednesday police nabbed Maruthi near St John’s Church Road with the help of the Zonal Analysis Team.
