Hyderabad: Mom ends life to brighten sons' matrimonial prospects

Police officials said Sai Lakshmi frequently talked about suicide as she was depressed.

Hyderabad: Satya Sai Lakshmi, 58, who ended her life after trying to kill her husband Y. Murali Krishna, had hinted about suicide earlier as she was depressed about her husband’s Parkinson disease. However, their sons had counselled her repeatedly to stop her from committing suicide. Murali Krishna, who has serious head injuries is recovering.

Relatives said Sai Lakshmi was depressed as her sons were not getting good matches for marriage and she believed that it was due to their father’s Parkinson disease.

“Their elder son Omkar is an engineer and younger son Ganesh works in a pharma company. Since both are in their late 20s, Sai Lakshmi wanted them to get married. However, many proposals which came for them got cancelled as the prospective brides’ families came to know about Murali Krishna’s disease,” said a relative from Rajamundry.

Police officials said Sai Lakshmi frequently talked about suicide as she was depressed. “When she hinted about suicide, their sons brought her to Hyderabad from Rajahmundry. We came to know that she had tried to jump to death earlier too,” said inspector K. Ramesh, adding that she had also tried other methods to end her life.

“She believed that if her husband and she were gone their sons can have a normal life,” the officer added.
