Bowrampet: Woman who gave surety for friend kills herself, kid
Hyderabad: Hours after celebrating the birthday of her only daughter, a woman hanged the girl and then killed herself on Tuesday. The reason, deduced from a suicide note she left, is that she was cheated of money by her friend.
The woman, 28-year-old Allanthangari Anitha, lived with her husband Srinivas, daughter Navya, 6, and her mother in Bowrampet. The couple was married on June 29, 2011.
Anitha ran a chit fund business for local residents and had gained the confidence of her clients.
A friend, Renuka, who was in need of money, had approached her to arrange for a Rs 8 lakh loan. Anitha arranged the money by borrowing it from a person she knew and gave surety for repayment.
Renuka failed to clear the debt and Anitha was under pressure from the person who had lent the money.
July 2 (Monday) was Navya’s birthday and the family celebrated the occasion and had a good time. Srinivas, a DCM van driver, left for work early Tuesday morning. Later he received a call from his mother-in-law telling him that Anitha and Navya were found hanging from the ceiling of the bedroom.
In a note reportedly written by Anitha, she is said to have explained the reason for taking such a drastic step.
“The note, reportedly written by Anitha, reads that she was cheated by her friend for whom she arranged the money,” said inspector Shankaraiah of the Dundigal police. “She also mentioned that her husband does not have any role in this matter and is innocent.”
A case has been registered under section 306 of the IPC (abetment to suicide) based on the complaint given by Srinivas, and the bodies were handed over to the family after autopsies were conducted at Gandhi Hospital.
