Bobbitisation case: Court raps girl
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Additional District and Sessions Court (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences court) here on Monday rapped the girl, who allegedly bobbitised Swami Gangeshananda, for failing to appear before it despite repeated notices. The court had asked her to give her opinion on the police demand to conduct a brain-mapping test as she had retracted her initial statement given to the cops.
Further steps cannot be taken with her failure to appear before the court, which may even close the case. The woman, a law student, had recently retracted her statement that she had bobbitised the swami to thwart a rape attempt. She later alleged that it was a story fabricated by the police and told the defence lawyer that the swami was a ‘father-like’ figure for her.
She also said that her friend and the swami’s former aide Ayyappadas had instigated her to bobbitise the swami. Last week, Ayyppadas had withdrawn a habeas corpus petition filed before the High Court. The case was being probed by the Crime Branch. It was considered by the POCSO court as the woman, in a statement before the magistrate, had said that she was being sexually abused by the swami since her childhood.
