Bengaluru: Youth who attacked policemen held
Bengaluru: The Cottonpet police arrested an accused, who had allegedly stabbed a 27-year-old woman after being paid by her boyfriend and had also attacked two policemen on Saturday when they tried to nab him.
The accused Rakesh alias Billa, 22, is a resident of Flower Garden in Cottonpet and a vagabond. The 27-year-old woman was stabbed on the night of June 21 near her house on Police Road in Cottonpet. He had stabbed her thrice in her lower back and escaped. The police, who launched a probe, had arrested three — Pramod, Kumar and Suresh. Pramod had claimed that he was in relationship with the woman for the past eight years, but they parted ways after differences cropped up about a year ago. He wanted to patch up with her, but she had refused.
“Two days prior to the incident, Pramod paid Rs 1.10 lakh to Kumar and told him to physically threaten and intimidate the woman. Kumar, in turn, paid Rs 50,000 to Rakesh and told him to threaten her. But Rakesh not only threatened her but also attempted to kill her by stabbing her and was absconding,” the police said.
On Saturday, ASI Thirumalaiah H.G. and constable Kumar tried to arrest Rakesh near Tank Bund Road in Cottonpet based on specific information. On seeing the police, Rakesh and his associate started running and when the policemen stopped him, he pulled out a dagger, attacked them and escaped. The policemen sustained minor injuries in the incident.
“On Monday, Rakesh was arrested from Channapatna following credible information. He was earlier involved in an attempt to murder case in KP Agrahara station limits and is an associate of Peter, a rowdy of Srirampura currently lodged in Parappana Agrahara central jail in connection with a murder case. We are investigating his involvement in past offences,” DCP (West) M. N. Anuchet said.
