Bengaluru: Unable to repay loan, family of four commits suicide

According to police, Jagadeesh had taken a loan of Rs. 25 lakh from a bank and his friends to construct the house in which he was living.

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, four members of a family ended their lives by hanging at their house in Om Shakthi Layout in Bommasandra on Sunday.

The members of the family allegedly took the extreme step after the head of the family Jagadeesh (50), an employee of a private company, did not repay the loan he took to construct a house.

He, however, has left a death note in which he has penned down the names to whom he owed the money and has asked to sell off the house and pay back the lenders.

The other three deceased have been identified as Jagadeesh's wife Kasthuri (45) and children Vinod (15) and Prabhu (12). They were natives of Vellore in Tamil Nadu and were living in the city since a few years.

According to police, Jagadeesh had taken a loan of Rs. 25 lakh from a bank and his friends to construct the house in which he was living. As he found difficult to pay the EMI's and to friends who lent him the money, he planned to sell off his house but found no takers.

Burdened by the debt, police added, the couple first hanged their children and then hanged themselves at their house. Meanwhile, Bommanahalli police have informed the couple's family members and have shifted the body for post-mortem. A case of unnatural death has been registered.
