Family suicide pact: Police arrest five for harassing victims

Bengaluru: A day after a man hung his 12-year-old son and forced her 45-year-old wife to end her life in a family suicide pact, the HAL police have arrested five people including three women for harrasing the family for money.

The family suicide was planned by Suresh Babu (48) after they incurred losses in a chit fund business they were running and the debt increased. After the lenders and investors harrassed Suresh and his wife Geetha for money, the family unable to bear the harrasment, planned suicide in the early hours of Sunday.

The police have arrested Sudha, Manju, Daisy, Prabhavati and Ram Bahadur. Suresh was arrested on Sunday on charges of murder and abbetment to suicide.

Suresh and Geetha had borrowed money from private lenders and were also running a chit fund which ran into huge losses. When investors and money lenders began to harass the couple for money, Suresh discussed with his wife and decided to end their and their children's lives. In the early hours of Sunday, Suresh hung his son and forced her wife to end her life. However, he stepped back and cancelled his plan of commiting suicide.

Suresh initially made it look like his wife Geetha Bai hanged his son and later ended her life. But, his daughter confessed before the police that it was Suresh who hanged her brother and produce video-evidence that she had recorded in her mobile phone.

The police questioned Suresh's daughter who revealed that Suresh had planned the family suicide over a financial row, forcefully hanged his son Infront of everyone and later forced her mother to end her life.
