Three-year-old found raped, abandoned, in Amruthahalli
Bengaluru: A three-year-old girl, who was sexually assaulted and later abandoned, was found behind the Bethel AG Church in Chiranjivi Layout near Amruthahalli on Thursday evening.
The police took her to a hospital for medical examination on Friday, while the assault was confirmed on Saturday evening.
The case has sent the police into a tizzy as they cannot trace the child’s parents as she has not spoken a word since rescued by the police.
DCP Northeast Kala Krishnaswamy said that the child was spotted by a local resident, who informed the police. “The child was found on the roadside crying, around 6.30 am on Thursday. After a passerby informed the police control room, the jurisdictional Amruthahalli police rescued her. We shifted her to the Balakiyara Balamandira on Hosur Road the same evening as we did not know the whereabouts of her parents. We initially registered a case of abandonment of a child aged under 12 under provisions of Section 317 of the IPC. But when we took her for medical examination on Saturday, the doctors found that the girl had been sexually assaulted. Now, we have registered a case under provisions of the Pocso Act. There are no visible external injuries on the child,” Krishnaswamy said.
The investigation team is making efforts to trace the girl’s parents. “The child has not uttered a word since she was rescued, and we don’t know what
language she speaks and where she is from. The girl is recuperating and once she is able to talk, we will try to get details of her family through a counsellor,” the officer said.
