Cuddalore: Two cops suspended for extorting Rs 20 lakh

According to the sources the police officers took Jalaludheen to a strange place and extorted Rs 20 lakh after threatening him.

Cuddalore: Two police head constables and a driver were suspended from service for extorting money from a business man in Cuddalore on Friday.
Policemen Selvaraj, Ravi Kumar and Antony samy were placed under suspension for extorting Rs 20 lakh from Jalaludheen, employee of a businessman in Chennai.

The incident took place around 7.30 on Friday in Alpettai check post near Cuddalore where the cops stopped a bus from Chennai to Nagapattinam in which Jalaludheen was traveling. They checked his bag and found Rs 50 lakh in it.

According to the sources the police officers took Jalaludheen to a strange place and extorted Rs 20 lakh after threatening him.

Jalaludheen immediately intimated his owner, Ibrahim, in Chennai where he approached senior police officials in Chennai and Cuddalore and told them about the incident.

Superintendent of Police Vijaya Kumar, on receiving the complaint, reached the spot around 8.30 pm on Friday along with other police officials and questioned the accused. The three cops denied the allegation and maintained that it was a false complaint.

After searching for nearly 3 hours Rs 20 lakh was seized from a farm land near Alpettai after which they were immediately suspended from service, said the sources.
