Bengaluru: A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a neighbour who tried to murder her after the act by smashing her head with a boulder. The incident was reported in K.G. Halli police station limits early Saturday and the police managed to crack the case within 12 hours.
The accused has been identified as Veeresha, 24, a labourer and a rag picker. He hailed from Chitradurga district and was living next to the shed where the girl’s family lived. The girl’s family also hailed from Chitradurga and the accused was known to them.
According to the police, the girl’s parents and the accused had come to the city just a few months ago and were living in temporary sheds.
Around 2 am on Saturday, the girl had come out of the shed to attend nature call. Later, she was found lying in an unconscious state in front of a house by the house owner. The police rushed to the spot and as the girl had head injuries, they immediately shifted her to Bowring Hospital. Meanwhile, the police started looking out for the girl’s parents and as the mother had started searching, they found her who told that his daughter had gone out to attend nature call and gone missing.
“The doctors, while conducting medical examination, noticed bleeding in the girl’s private parts and informed the police. A case was registered under section 376 (rape) of the IPC and under the provisions of the POCSO Act, based on a complaint filed by the survivor’s mother. Special teams were formed to nab the accused and CCTV footage was collected from around 15 cameras. One of the cameras had captured a man carrying the girl to the parking area of a college, . The footage was shown to the girl’s mother, who told that the man was her neighbor. Immediately, he was arrested,” police said.
When questioned, the accused revealed that he was inebriated and saw the girl. “He lifted and carried her till the parking area of the college and allegedly raped her. As the girl knew him, he feared that she would tell her parents about him and thus he smashed her head with a boulder. He threw her unconscious body in front of the owners gate. His idea was to project that the girl had died in road accident,” an official said.
