Chennai: 3 men arrested in two cases of jewellery theft

The police team recovered around 9.5 sovereigns of gold jewels from them.

Chennai: Two men, allegedly involved in a series of burglaries, were arrested by the police on Thursday. The police stated that 9.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen from the house of T. Cheran Chenguttuvan(62) in Lakshmi Nagar, Thirunindravur. Based on the complaint filed, the Thirunundravur police arrested G. Sudhakhar(25) of Ayanavaram and A. Karthick(23) of Pattaibiram.

The police said that the two have had a number of cases reported against them and that once, they had allegedly even stolen from women devotees at Thirunindravuir temple festival after distracting them. The duo was apprehended and remanded in judicial custody. The police team recovered around 9.5 sovereigns of gold jewels from them.

In another case, a 27-year-old man was arrested on Thursday night for burgling a house in West Mamabalam.

According to police, R. Surendran(32), a resident of Eshwaran Kovil street in West Mambalam, an employee at a private company, lodged a complaint with the Kumaran Nagar police that 11 sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen from his house.

The police combed through the CCTV footages and noted a man entering the house. Based on the input, the Kumaran Nagar police arrested S. Vadivazhagan of Chromepet.

He was remanded in judicial custody.
