Kerala: Man who set fire on wife being brought back

Thrissur: Pazhappallil Biraj, who set fire on his estranged wife after pouring petrol over her on Monday, was presented before the magistrate at Dadar in Mumbai, from where he was taken into custody. He is now being taken back to state, police said. The shocking incident happened on Sunday afternoon as the victim Jeethu,29, wife of Biraj,39, was coming out of a house where a Kudumbashree meeting was held.

Biraj, who was waiting with a bottle of petrol concealed within his dhoti, poured it over her and lit her up. She succumbed to her burns on Tuesday at Thrissur Medical College. SHO at Puthukad station S P Sudheeran said that the statement of Jeethu's father Janardhanan has been recorded in which he has said that none of the persons who were in the Kudumbashree meeting along with the CPM councilor of Kundukadavu of Chengalur where the incident took place, did not accompany him in the autorickshaw to the hospital in Chalakkudy.

“It is also a fact that none of the persons in the area accompanied the autorickshaw on a bike or on any other vehicle. In view of the allegations of conspiracy, the police will be questioning the acused and will take action against any accomplice in the crime if there are any,” SI said.
