Bengaluru: Man held for killing wife

The deceased has been identified as Shabana Banu, 26, who worked as a helper in Anganwadi.

Bengaluru: The J.C. Nagar police have arrested a 32-year-old man who murdered his wife on Wednesday, for allegedly having an affair.

The deceased has been identified as Shabana Banu, 26, who worked as a helper in Anganwadi.

She got married to Syed Thabariz a month ago after living together for five years. Syed hailed from Kolar and worked as an electrician. The couple resided in Munnireddy Palya in J.C. Nagar.

In 2016, Shabana's parents married her off to a vegetable vendor, but within 20 days of her marriage she eloped with Syed. They got married recently against their parents’ will.

According to the police, after their marriage, Syed began suspecting her fidelity and they often used to fight over the issue.

On Wednesday night, he picked up a fight over the same issue. In a fit of anger, he took a kitchen knife, cut her hand and stabbed her in the abdomen. He later strangulated her neck with her veil and fled.

On Thursday morning, neighbours noticed that no one was coming out of the house and grew suspicious. They knocked repeatedly but got no response. They then alerted the police.

J.C. Nagar police reached the spot and broke open the door and found the body. They sent the body for post-mortem and traced the accused within hours.
