Hyderabad: Burglar arrested, gold seized
Hyderabad: A 45-year-old vulcanising worker was arrested by Market police for burglary on Tuesday. The cops seized 55 tolas of gold worth Rs15 lakh from him. The suspect, identified as Mohd Iqbal Jeelani, belongs to Hubli in Karnataka.
Police said that Iqbal was a habitual burglar and has a history sheet with the Karnataka police. “He has 35 thefts as well as assault cases against him with the Hubli police. He was arrested in 1986 for stealing electronic items from a house by the Karnataka police and was kept in juvenile prison. Seven NBWs are pending against him,” north zone deputy commissioner B. Sumathi said. “He moved to Ahmedabad in 2000 and was engaged in thefts and other crimes,” she added.
Recently, he committed a day burglary in Market police station area. The DCP added, “On February 19 he entered a house in Bandimet by breaking the locks and stole gold ornaments weighing about 55 tolas by breaking the locks of the almirah.”
Based on a complaint filed by R.S. Dayanand, a case was registered at the Market police station. During the investigation, CCTV footages from the crime scene were collected and the person found in the footage was probed.
On Tuesday at around 5 pm, he was found near Clock Tower and arrested. “He confessed to have committed the offence. The stolen property was recovered from a room at the Indian Lodge at Nampally where he checked in early on Tuesday,” added the DCP. Iqbal will be produced in court.
