Hyderabad: 14 foreigners held for overstaying
Hyderabad: The police arrested 14 foreigners who were overstaying in the city after their visas had expired.
DCP B. Limba Reddy said, “Our team made a surprise check in Golconda, Humayun Nagar, Asifnagar, Langar houz, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Osmania University and Malakpet. We arrested 14 foreign nationals who had come to India on student visas.”
He added, “They were overstaying here. We also warned house owners to register particulars of students with the Foreign Regional Registration Offices (FRRO). It is a statutory requirement under Section 7(3) and 7(4) of the Foreigners Act - 1946.”
"We have written a letter to FRRO to get details of owners who have submitted the particulars and once we get the report we will take action against owners who haven't uploaded details. The owners are liable to be prosecuted and jailed for five years if found guilty. The foreign nationals who were caught will be charged for overstaying under Sec (14) of the Foreigners Act. The immediate step will be to deport them by arranging visas," the DCP said.
