Telangana: Gold hidden in gas regulator

Customs officials arrested him and seized 350 grams of gold worth around Rs 10 lakh.

Hyderabad: Gold smuggling is taking new forms. A passenger tried to smuggle in buttons made of gold by concealing it in a gas cylinder regulator. Customs officials arrested him and seized 350 grams of gold worth around Rs 10 lakh. Customs officials said that a team from the Air Intelligence Unit at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport intercepted a passenger who came from Dubai by Fly Dubai flight #FZ 259 and was moving in a suspicious manner.

When customs officials questioned him he rejected all charges. But when his baggage was checked a gas regulator was found under the clothes. When the regulator was checked it was found that the passenger had concealed six gold buttons in it and was smuggling them. Customs officials detained him and seized the six gold buttons weighing 350 grams worth Rs 10.22 lakh. The case is being investigated.
