Bengaluru: Driver involved in Biocon bus accident held

The driver, Saleem, was produced before the police by Sai Travels owner Jayaram Reddy.

Bengaluru: Three days after an accused driver from Sai Travels, who caused an accident on NICE Road on March 30 evening killing a 25-year-old virologist and injuring two other employees of Biocon, has been arrested by the Electronics City traffic police.

The driver, Saleem, was produced before the police by Sai Travels owner Jayaram Reddy. The driver had lost control of the mini-bus he was driving while overtaking a lorry and had crashed into the vehicle in which Biocon employees were commuting.

The virologist, Revati, a resident of Hosakerahalli, who was sitting on the front seat, died on her way to hospital, while the other two employees, Prajwal and Anup, were injured.

“Saleem had fled the spot. A day after the accident, Mr Jayaram Reddy met the police and told them that Saleem had fled to his hometown. Saleem was arrested on Saturday morning and was produced before the court in the evening,” an investigating officer said.

A case under Section 304 A, causing death due to negligence, was registered against Saleem.
