Bengaluru: Auto passenger dies in accident
BENGALURU: A 27-year-old man, who was travelling in his friend’s autorickshaw, died after it hit another vehicle and toppled on Ullal Road in Kamakshipalya police station limits on Saturday night. The auto driver was reportedly drunk.
The deceased has been identified as S. Sunil, a resident of Bapujinagar. The auto driver, Suresh, 27, sustained injuries and was later arrested by the police for drunk driving. Sunil used to work for a mobile phone service provider company, but had left the job a month ago and was in search on another one.
Police said that Sunil, Suresh and others had gone to one of their friend’s house to celebrate his birthday. They had gone there around 6 pm and all of them had consumed alcohol. Around 9 pm, Sunil and Suresh left for their homes in the autorickshaw.
“Suresh was speeding and when they reached Ullal Road he tried to overtake a Tata Ace vehicle. However, he rammed into it and the auto toppled. Both Suresh and Sunil got injured. Passersby rushed to their help and shifted them to a hospital, where Sunil succumbed after sometime, while Suresh is recovering,” the police added.
Nearly four hours after the accident the police subjected Suresh to breathalyzer test, which revealed that his blood alcohol level was 203 mg per 100 ml of blood, while the permissible limit is 40 mg. “He has been booked under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and other sections of the IPC,” the police added.
