Hyderabad: Allegedly harassed by her in-laws, a 29-year-old woman, wife of a software engineer, committed suicide by jumping from their apartment building at Vanasthalipuram on Sunday morning
According to the Vanasthalipuram police, P. Nivedita of Saidabad married Raghu Prasad about eight months back. The couple was living with Mr Prasad’s parents at Shubhodaya Arcadia at Sushma Sai Nagar.
Mr Prasad is a software engineering in an IT company at Madhapur, Nivedita worked as a teacher at a private school.
At about midnight, her parents were informed that Nivedita was “creating trouble.” Her mother said: “We went to their home to settle the issue. After the couple went to sleep, we returned home. On Sunday morning, Prasad called and informed that Nivedita had committed suicide.”
Nivedita’s parents told the police that there was no issue of dowry, but their daughter was harassed mentally over petty issues.
“At about 8 am, Nivedita jumped from the fifth floor of the building. Her parents alleged that she was being harassed by her husband and in-laws. A case has been registered against Prasad and her in-laws to probe if she committed suicide or they pushed her to death,” said Vanasthalipuram inspector A. Venkataiah.
