Igcar scientific officer murder: Cops to probe mafia Sridhar's link with case
Chennai: A day after five persons, including a woman, were arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a scientific officer of IGCAR four years ago to take over his Rs 20 crore worth property, the Kancheepuram police are probing the possible links of the wanted land Mafioso Sridhar Dhanapal in the case.
V Ellappan, a scientific officer attached to IGCAR, Kalpakkam went missing in February 2013.
Kancheepuram police on Thursday arrested five people, including Thenmozhi, who was staying for rent at the house of the victim, for allegedly murdering him.
Thenmozhi, a widow, was reportedly very close with Ellappan’s father till his death and also later became friendly with Ellappan.
After murdering Ellappan and subsequent death of his mother, two months later, Thenmozhi, with the help of her father-in-law Sellappa created fake documents to show that Ellappan’s father, a retired sub-collector in his will bequeathed his three houses and two other properties to her.
Police believe that she had tried to do some land transaction with the help of the land mafia group controlled by the wanted don Sridhar Dhanapal, now holed up in Dubai. “We are probing the possible Sridhar Dhanapal link,” said ASP N Shreenatha when this newspaper contacted him.
The officer, however, ruled out the possibility of probing into the death of Ellappan’s mother Vijayalakshmi three months after his disappearance, amidst speculation that Thenmozhi could have killed her too.
The case of missing Ellappan was reopened by ASP N Shreenatha after he noticed that Thenmozhi was trying to do a transaction of property belonged to Ellappan’s father. Further probe led to the arrest of five suspects.
Police have arrested five persons named Thenmozhi, Sellappa, auto driver Gopi, Ezhumalai and Sekharan. After killing Ellappan the gang had buried the body in the Palar River bed.
Police, however, could not find the body, though they have been digging various spots in the riverbed since Thursday.
