Hyderabad: Osmania University professor's wife attacks activist
Hyderabad: The wife of an Osmania University professor was arrested after assaulting child rights activist Achyuta Rao on Friday in Nacharam while he was rescuing two kids who were employed as bonded labour in the residences of two professors.
Mr Achyuta Rao, honorary president of Balala Hakkula Sangham, along with child welfare and labour officials raided Flats 201 and 202 in Sri Sai Apartment in Karthikeyanagar, Nacharam, after informing the residents. They found a 12-year-old child working in each of the houses.
Pushpalatha, wife of professor Goranayak, Telugu, and owner of flat 201, started shouting at them and assaulted Mr Achyuta Rao and the 12-year-old. “She tried to snatch the child from us,” an official said.
Mr Achyuta Rao said that the incidents happened due to the failure of government agencies in curbing child labour. Based on his complaint, Nacharam police registered a case for causing hurt (IPC Section 323), wrongful restraint (341) and public nuisance (290) and under the Juvenile Justice Act.
“We have arrested her and will produce her before the court, Nacharam inspector N. Pravinder Rao said. The two children, a boy and a girl, were sent to a rescue home.
