Hyderabad: Girl, lover set themselves ablaze

Girl dies, lover hospitalised with burns.

Hyderabad: A BTech student died and her boyfriend suffered serious injuries when they both set themselves ablaze at their friend's house at Musheerabad. The duo, engineering students of JNTU, visited their friend's house on Friday and when her friends went out, they set themselves ablaze.

M. Abhishek, 22, and K. Samyuktha, 21, poured kerosene over their bodies and set fire to themselves at a flat in Ramnagar. Neighbours and their friends broke into the house and tried to rescue them. While Samyuktha died on the spot, Abhishek is undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital with severe burns.

Police suspect they decided to end their lives as their families were against their marriage.

Police said Abhishek and Samyuktha belonged to Narsapur in Medak district. They have been in a relationship for a while. They frequently used to visit their friend's house in Ramnagar.

"On Friday, they came to their friend's house and stayed there saying they wanted to prepare for an upcoming examination. When their friend went out they committed suicide," said a police officer from Musheerabad.

Police officials said that Abhishek had undergone a kidney transplant surgery six months ago and both he and his girlfriend were worried about his health. Cops are investigating if this was one of the reason for their suicide. Musheerabad police booked a case and started an investigation.
